Time To Put Your Thinking Caps On

Mike Neuenschwander has dubbed July as Identity Conference Month. And he should know, given that so many of his signature moments were on stage at the Catalyst conference that will be returning at the end of this month (July 26-29 in San Diego). Catalyst is always the most thought-provoking identity event of the year, but there is added intrigue this year, as a lot of us recurring *characters* are wondering what impact the Gartner takeover of the event (last years was still run by the Burton folk) will have on its ethos. I’ll be dropping in as always to learn, converse, incite and, of course, party.

The week before that, the Cloud Identity Summit (July 18-21) will once again be warming us up for Catalyst by hosting an impressive gathering of subject matter experts and thought leaders talking about the intertwined worlds of identity and the cloud. And this year, I’ll be there too, giving a talk on the future of identity provisioning (July 20 at 12:00pm). Following up on the talks I gave last year at Gluecon and at Catalyst, I’ll be bringing my cred as a provisioning expert to bear in examining if identity provisioning even has a future in the pull-based future of identity (spoiler alert: it does), and what it might look like, given recent developments in the space and advancements in cloud architectures. In an unfortunate scheduling mishap, I will be going up against Pamela Dingle’s session on identity and mobility, which I would have loved to sit in on myself. I’m sure she’ll be peppering her session with cuteness in the form of cats or cuddly toys, so I’m going to have to up the game and incorporate something bad-ass into my session, like Transformers or Angry Birds (Iron Man was so last year). Join Us (Me) at the Oracle Security Online Forum (Feb 24)

On Thursday, February 24, Oracle will be holding an online mini conference focusing on security – the Oracle Security Online Forum. This live joint event with Accenture will last from 12:00-4:00pm ET, and will feature a great line-up of speakers and sessions focusing on security trends, best practices, and proven solutions for your business. It’s a unique opportunity for security professionals, IT executives, IT architects, identity management and database specialists, data architects, IT administrators and auditors to hear from some of the experts in their respective fields.

I’ll be kicking off things alongside Vipin Samar and Jeff Margolies on the keynote panel “2011: Information Security Trends for the Next Decade“. And throughout the event, Oracle security solution experts will be on live chat event to answer your toughest questions. I’m only going to stay on for a little while after the keynote finishes, so be sure to join on time if you want to grill me.

Kuppinger Cole’s free Virtual Conference on Access Governance

The identity management analyst team over at Kuppinger Cole is organizing a free virtual conference on Enterprise Access Governance over the next two days (December 8 and 9). They’ll be putting forward their thoughts on what constitutes a complete access governance program, and what is the best, most optimal way to go about managing your risk and security needs.

I’ll be taking part in two of their panel discussions, one on the topic of Separation of Duties (SoD), and the other on the topic of Attestation (or re-certification). Both are on Wednesday, December 9th:

How to Efficiently Implement SoD Controls: Which Level Works?
- 11am EST| 8am PST | 5pm CET
How to Start: Recertification or Active Access Controls First?
- 12pm EST | 9am PST | 6pm CET

Both panels will be focused on determining the right approach to rolling out these solutions, and where they should fit into your overall IdM program. This sometimes become a vendor driven conversation, so the opportunity for fireworks is always there.

Check out the conference if you have time. It’s virtual, so you can do it from the comfort of your home/office (which is always good in the winter). And it’s free (you can’t beat that)! Should be an interesting discussion.
